A two-week reprieve

UGH!!! I am really disappointed that I couldn't get my fourth chemo treatment... I really want to get them over with. I tried talking Charlie into letting me get the chemo, but he checked with the Oncologist and he said it would be too dangerous. I guess I could end up in the hospital if my platelets went any lower. So, I have decided to turn it into a positive. I do feel good since I don't have "new" chemo in me, but I still don't feel quite like myself.

Kelsey, my favorite Port Nurse gave me a comic book - "Captain Cure" - to give to Acey. It was signed by the artist/writer, Ty Wakefield who was diagnosed in March 2007 with bone cancer. His motto is "be strong". I like that!

We will be leaving for Portland tomorrow. My cousins Christopher and Matt live there, so I hope to meet up with them and take them out to dinner.

Today, my friend Robin brought her 7 month old twin girls over. It was the first time I have seen them, so I was really excited about that. I had only seen pictures, and they are absolutely beautiful!! She also brought Kylie (9 yrs) and Max (7 yrs), so Acey had a nice play date. So, as you can see, a reprieve from chemo does have it's positives :).

One more thing... last weekend we got Acey's hair cut. It was much needed, but Acey was not a happy camper. As usual, he thinks it's too short, but I think he looks handsome. Let's just say he wore a hat to school every day :)...

  1. Hey Beach Clan:
I hope you are having fun down there in Portland! Voodoo Donuts and Scholls Pizza place (is that right??)should know you by name by now!

Gidget the pics on this blog comment are so cute. The twins are adorable and although Acey does look grumpy while his hair is being cut he really looks nice with short hair in the baby photo. It is hard to imagine Acey not looking nice though because he is one handsome little boy! Okay, have fun and be safe.

  2. Hi Gidget, Jay & Acey,

I'll bet it is nice to be traveling this w/e instead of having the treatment. Don't blame you though, Gidget, for wanting to get it over with.

I stayed with the baseball ticket buying to get tickets for all of us on opening day, although if we set in our individual seats, we would need binoculars to see each other. They are scattered out through 5 different sections. I'm sure it will work out once we are in the stadium.

    Have a good weekend.

    Love you all three.

  3. Hi, Gidget and the rest of the Beach Clan,
I'm glad you are getting out of town and doing something fun. I know you always have a blast in Portland. I enjoyed living near there when I was in Salem years ago, too. Lots of cool things to do and see.

    The twins are too cute!

I agree with Auntie Merd- Acey looks great with his hair short- but then he looks great with it longer too!

Have fun, be safe. Love, Michelle

  4. That is a great book for Acey!! I'm sorry you cannot get the chemo over with. Everything will happen in God's time (did I actually type that! EW!) But you do need to take care of yourself and not take any chances. It sounds like you are in good hands and have a great Doctor. I look forward to seeing you next week! (If you are up to it)

  5. Love the photo of the twins! I haven't seen them since they have gotten so BIG. And you guys look fabulous too. Have a great time in Portland - you deserve it.
