A new house... and four Navy men :O)...

Got your attention, huh? More on the Navy men in a bit! Sorry it has taken so long for this post. My Dad and his friend Beverly came to visit from Alaska, so I put the blog on the back burner.

We are finally buying a house, after 2+ years of looking - it closes March 29. It has been a long process, but we were looking for a very particular house/property in a specific location. "Our house" has plenty of acreage and trees (Acey and Jay's main criteria). It's an older home, but I just love both the house and the property!

We had Donny (Jay's brother-in-law, who does beautiful carpentry work) meet us at the house on Friday to talk about remodeling options. The house is in really good shape, and has good "bones," so there isn't a ton of work to be done, but it will need flooring, painting and a new kitchen. I guess Jay will be busy :). My Mom has also offered to come and help paint.

Our real estate agent/friend Amber opened up the house first thing Friday morning so we could meet Donny and a few other contractors. We wanted to get quotes on flooring, windows, kitchen cabinets, etc. all at the same time. Our plan is to finalize our list of priorities and get everything lined up before the house closes on the 29th. Merd also came over to see the house, hang out and visit, and we all went out to lunch Friday afternoon.

On Saturday we went to Acey's big school auction - an annual event that helps pay for the needs of the school and the students. My main goal was to win one particular item: the use of four Navy men for four hours. We got into a bidding war with another couple, but we ended up winning. The item description said that four strong Navy men will fulfill any and all needs for four hours....hmmm... Jay seems to think we're going to use them to help us move into the new house when it's ready :). Oh well!

On a side note, I just received a very sweet card from my cousin Christopher. It left me in tears and reminded me that we need to do a better job of telling the people we love and care about how we really feel. I think we often take for granted that people know how we feel about them. So, I just wanted you to know how much I love you all and how grateful I am to have you in my life :). Life is good indeed!

  2. Hi, Gidget
I haven't heard much from you this week. Now I know why- 4 Navy men indeed!

I love the house- all the land, trees and greenery- just what you guys were holding out for. It's not too far from my place either- another bonus!

We've had Parent-teacher conferences going on all week- busy, busy! The nice trade off is that we have tomorrow (Friday off) in return for all the extra long days (and evenings) this week. I'll be thinking about you tomorrow- I hope the treatment goes as well as the others. Call me if you get bored and need someone to help pass the time.

    Love you three LOTS! Michelle

  3. Hi Gidget - you may have taken a few days off, but this makes up for it.

We will be thinking of you today, too and will have you in our prayers.

We will be making a trip up your way in about 5 more weeks. We really look forward to seeing your house and maybe can help a little as you get settled in.

Love you lots - Ed and Joyce

  4. Hi Gidget - Back again. I meant to thank you for having the 4 big, strong Navy men lined up. I assume they will have done all the heavy work before we get there. That was the point in waiting till the 8th to come up. Also, that will be in between your chemo treatments.

Meridee, I say in Acey's blog that you had mentioned being in England till Apr 14th, so that means we will get a chance to see you before we leave on the 18th. Michelle had emailed us that she is passing through Seattle on the 17th on her way to D.C. We may try to get together with her for lunch before she takes off. She is coming in late on the 16th and leaving the afternoon of 17th, so she is going to stay at a hotel out by the airport.

Gidget, I completely agree with your thoughts about letting our loved ones know how much we care and love them.

Can't wait to see all of you.

  5. The house is great news and shows signs of things to come--just like Gidget getting better! She is a strong person with a loving family and friends around her who love and care about her. I only see good things in their future!!

  6. Hi Guys:
I seem to be falling behind in adding my comments and we can't have that! Jay and Gidget is was a nice surprise to get a chance to see the two of you again on Friday. I have to admit I am getting spoiled about having so much extra time with all of you and will really miss it once Gidget's treatments are over. Your visits give Fevzi and I a chance to be part of your lives and that is such a nice, nice feeling! Of course my little brother Jay has been one of the best things that has ever happened in my life. Jay has the best bear hugs of any man I have ever known! He wraps his long arms around you and you just feel "wrapped"! You are one lucky woman Gidget to have such a good hugger!

Fevzi brought the sparkling clean Tonka truck home tonight and set it right inside our front door. Tonka and I were out on a walk but when we came inside the house his little butt wiggled about 1,000 times a minute when he saw it! He licked it, climbed on it, (tried to chew the wheels!) and finally just lay down beside it to lick some more. He really surprised me with his reaction because normally he likes something soft and chewy! Gidget thanks for thinking of Tonka and you could not have chosen a better toay. He has completely ignored the Tonka truck that we originally bought him (for his 7 week picture) so it was fun to see his reaction to your present! We will let him play with it until we see you the next time and then give it back so that Acey can keep it.
Okay you three, sounds like the house plans are coming along nicely. Can't wait to see all of it finished!
    Love Meridee
