Three down... 9 to go!

They disconnected my chemo pump on Sunday and, to tell you the truth, I couldn't wait to get disconnected. I had more side effects this time and they were more intense.

On Saturday, Acey asked if I was ready for my walk ;) and I told him it was the perfect time for a walk. The weather was cold and crisp, but the day was beautiful, so I made the mistake of not wearing a scarf when we left the house. A few minutes after coming back from our walk, I realized I couldn't breathe. It felt like I was having an asthma attack. The doctor warned me that this might happen, but said that "you can breathe, even if your mind is telling you that you can't, don't panic." Easy for him to say! My throat constricted and it sure "felt" like I couldn't breath. At first I began to panic, then tried to calm myself down - telling myself this is normal.

Jay wasn't home and Acey was in his room at that point. Right when I was thinking of calling 911, Jay walked through the door. He ran and got me hot coffee, which immediately opened up my throat. The chemo causes you to be super sensitive to cold weather, and most of the worst side effects are caused by cold - cold weather, cold liquids, ice cream, etc. So I try to stay wrapped up and warm as much as possible.

Of course after being disconnected from the chemo pack, we went to visit Merd and Fevzi at Antika. Tonka was also on our list, and we took current pictures so everyone can see how much he has grown. He is A LOT of dog :).

Merd showed us all the tricks he has learned. After Tonka finished showing off, Merd, Jay, Acey and I went to lunch at the Wing Dome...YUM!!!

On Monday, Jay took his lunch break to go for a walk with me on the boardwalk by the waterfront park in Poulsbo. It was nice to get a change of scenery :).

  1. Hi Gidget - Sure sorry to hear that you had worse side effects this time. The lady who sent you the package earlier had told her son-in-law that the problem with being cold affected her too. That was one of the reasons she started her ministry for women undergoing the chemo treatments.

It sounds as though you are enjoying the walks. That is a great habit to acquire and continue for general health. Keep it up!

We love you and will keep you in our prayers.

  2. That must have been real scary to feel like you cannot breathe. Did you and the Ladies have fun yesterday. I sure missed you all. I really want to get together on a weekend. Is that possible. Email me, okay?
    Take care of yourself!
    Love,
    Laurie

  3. Hi, Gidget
I'm sorry about the side affects being more intense. I am so proud of you for handling things like you are though...you who couldn't stand going to vet's office or Acey's doctor appointment without difficulty because of your fear of needles and other medical "stuff". You are so strong. Next time I have to go to the doctor's office I want you to come hold my hand!

I love the walk along the boardwalk in Poulsbo. Walking near water has its own healing properties I do believe! I'm glad you are able to get the exercise you need in such scenic places. Have a good weekend- Love, Michelle

  4. Hey Gidge:
It was a fun day today wasn't it? Seeing your new home (which I love and it is perfect for all of you) was very cool. I like all of the ideas that the two of you have for the remodeling and I can't wait to see it finished!
Your Dad is a hoot and I always enjoy getting to visit with him. You are one lucky lady to have such a special father in your life. Jay and the "girls" are also!
Keep up the good work with your walking. It sounds like you and the Ace Man are having fun on your walks and even better you are getting some one on one time with your handsome hubby. Poulsbo is so pretty that it is hard to imagine a better place to put your mind at ease and enjoy a walk at the same time.
Thanks for putting more pics of Tonka on your blog. Fevzi and I have really enjoyed seeing the two week pics of how he has changed over the last two months. He has put 30 pounds on since we picked him up which translates to 1/2 pound per day (is that scary or what!!). He is a sweetie!
Okay Girl, eat some food. You DO NOT want the rest of the Beach family and your family getting on to you about this! Love Merd
