Beethoven ROCKS!!!

Just wanted to do a quick update. As you know, my platelets were too low to get my chemo treatment last time around. Assuming my levels have gone up, my next round will be tomorrow (Friday). I can't even tell you how much better I feel without chemo in my system. I have been taking advantage of feeling better.

On Sunday we spent the day in Seattle. It always feels like I'm on vacation when we go to Seattle – since I don't commute anymore I can appreciate the "city" life. We spent part of the day at Pike Place Market, got a little snack and then went to the Seattle Symphony.

We have never been to the symphony before, but Acey has really been gravitating toward classical music lately – not a big shocker for anyone who knows him. He is an old soul and appreciates all things old. He is currently into Beethoven. The first part of the symphony was Tchaikovsky and the second part was Beethoven's Fifth Symphony. Acey loved it, and I must admit Jay and I enjoyed it as well. We capped the day off with dinner at McCormick and Schmick.

While at the symphony, I ran into my friend Marian. We made plans to meet up sometime in June with the rest of the girls. It always amazes me when I run into people I know when in Seattle. I am used to it in Fairbanks, but I grew up there, so it makes more sense.

We have been working on our house any chance we get, and I do what I can whenever I have the energy. The nausea and fatigue haven't been as bad this week because of my reprieve, so I have been making the most of it. Of course, I am not looking forward to Friday, but want to get it over with, then I can say I am at my halfway point, YEAH!!!

Just so happens the neighbors next to us have two boys who are 9 and 10 years old. Also, by luck, they are also "Frog Hunters" :O)... what are the odds? So Acey has been in frog heaven, spending most of his time outside with his new friends. They caught several frogs and put them all in "Acey's Pond," also known as the ditch at the bottom of our driveway :).

  1. Hi Gidget - We were getting withdrawal symptoms from not seeing any blogs.

It sounds like you and the 'Boys' had a good time in Seattle. That was a nice bow tie that Acey picked out. The symphony sure sounds like fun.

We will be thinking of you and keeping you in our prayers as you take your 6th treatment.

    Love - Ed and Joyce

  2. You look great and so does your home! I can't wait to see it. I'm sure happy we are having a girls day out in June. I also love the symphony. We used to go all the time. If you ever want to make plans to do that there are often performances on Sunday afternoons, which should work for both of us (and maybe the girls).
I had some horrible news this week, my little, precious 19-year old niece died from a drug overdose. I am wrecked. I hate the disease of drug addiction!! I'm in a really low place right now, so I look forward to seeing you and the girls.

  3. Gidget, I'm glad you got a fun day in the big city. You and Jay have been working so hard on the house (and Acey deserves a day of play after all that hard frog hunting). I had fun hanging out and working with you last week. Can't wait to see the finished house in June!
    Love, Michelle

  4. That Acey sure can rock a hat and tie! Tell him to go out after dark with a flashlight to find frogs when they are croaking....

  5. Gidget, good luck with this next round of chemo - half way there, that is awesome! You are so strong and have set such a good example for how to handle this challenge - I sure do love you! I really enjoy classical music, too, so I would love to go to the symphony with you, Jay, and Acey, next time you go - we could probably even talk Don into going with us...after all he is starting to get really good with ballroom dancing lessons!

I talked to Acey for quite awhile on the phone tonight...I told him he had inherited his love of playing with frogs from his Auntie's Mel, Merd, and Shell! Gosh, those are some of my best memories of playing with my sisters and adorable tiny green frogs when we lived in Hawaii - we were just about your age! Of course I know you always set your frogs free each night, so that they can live to be played with another day. But your aunties always thought the frogs that we built houses for had magic powers or super duper frog strength or something, because they were always gone from the houses we made for them in a box (we didn't find out until we were adults that your Grandma Beach set the frogs free each night and then she would put the big heavy board back on top of the box) - we could never figure out how those tricky little frogs escaped! Ace, good luck catching the "massive" frog that hides in the sticker bushes!!

Jay, you are looking pretty darn good, yourself, brother. I am hoping this awful sciatica eases so that I can come help with the house soon - I do like to tile - so maybe I can tile something for you!

Have a great weekend - and Gidget, will you give my hubby a hug from me to him? I miss him - but I am glad he can be there to get your new house in tip-top shape =-).

  6. Hi All:
Gidget I was thinking about you today and I hope the treatment went well and more importantly that the next few days are easy on you.

Your new house is going to be awesome and I can't wait to see the new changes! I can help out this coming Friday and am hoping that I can steal Acey away for Friday and Saturday nights???? I will bring him back on Sunday and would love to help out at the new house that day as well.

Great pics of your trip to the "big city"!

Fevzi and I have switched places and he is up at the cabin waiting patiently for the new grass to come in (we lost a 1/2 acre of new grass last year from 500 million maple leaves that suffocated it!). We have also been painting our new beautiful bedroom that Donnie built, starting to build some garden walls and battling the weeds that have overtaken the upper lot. I am in town now with Tonka running the store while Tonka runs me! If you guy's get a chance to stop by this Sunday I would love to see you. Tonka has gained 23 pounds the last month and is huge!
    Love Merd

  7. Hi Gidget! We are so happy to get your updates - and I love that Acey. So great that you could spend a day in Seattle taking in the sights and seeing the symphony. I was just talking to Zane about Beethoven the other day actually - he was asking me all about him (and of course I only knew a little). You look great - and so does your house. I hope I get to see you one of these days -and get the boys together. Let's plan a visit when you are feeling up to it.

Thinking of you often and sending you love and prayers. xo
