First update from the hospital

Hello All-

Sorry it has taken me so long to update everyone. Gidget went in to surgery last night at 6 p.m. -- the procedure only took an hour and twenty minutes (they told us it would last 2-3 hours). She was in recovery for a couple hours, then they moved her up to her room around 9:30. The surgeon was really pleased with the operation -- he didn't see any obvious signs of the cancer spreading to the other organs, the tissue around the tumor, etc. We won't know for sure what sage we're dealing with (which helps determine the follow-up treatment) until the pathology results come back later this week. At any rate, the surgeon is pleased with the results up to this point, and how well Gidget seems to be recovering. Gidget has been resting off and on since we got into the room -- clutching the magic pain-medication button, which dispenses the meds every six minutes at most. The physical therapist helped walk her in the hallway earlier, and she will get up this afternoon sometime to sit upright in a chair for 60-90 minutes. The movement/sitting position is supposed to help speed recovery and protect against blood clots forming in the legs. Sooooo... so far so good!
