Hello All-
Sorry for the long delay between updates. We finally got home last Sunday (the 20th), after 14 days in the hospital. Gidget's surgeon sent her home with a seven-day prescription for TPN (the "liquid food" I mentioned before) -- 1800 calories (plus vitamins, etc.) per day. Gidget was hooked up to the TPN pump 18 hours the first night, 16 the second, and then 12 hours every night after that. They pulled the PICC line day before yesterday (Monday), which was a huge relief -- that was the first time in weeks that Gidget wasn't hooked up to something (PICC line, IV, etc.). Freedom, at last!
Gidget is doing much better -- although there have been some ups and downs since she got home. She is eating regular food -- not enough, but more every day -- and walking a little bit. Acey has been wearing a butler's outfit (top hat and tails), and gave his mom a bell to ring whenever she needs something. He's a pretty good little nurse. I took last week (Christmas week) off, and have been working from home since then.
We have a follow-up appointment with Gidget's surgeon on Monday, and the first appointment with the oncologist on Tuesday. That's when we'll finally know more about what to expect in terms of chemotherapy, follow-up, etc. We'll send out another update after the appointments next week.
It was nice to be home for Christmas. We went up to my sister's house for a couple hours for a Christmas Eve party, which was fun but exhausting for Gidget. We took it easy and stayed home all day on Christmas. All in all it was a very nice, relaxing holiday.
Love, Jay

Hi Gidget - Joyce says we will keep thinking of you and praying for you - and we will.
ReplyDeleteYou sure look pretty, hooked up to your paraphanalia.
It sure is generous of you to share your PB&J Uncrusatables with Jay, although he did not actually say you offered to.
The mention of warm blankets made me think about the package we forwarded to you. Did it make it? The ladies son-in-law had mentioned that she found that she was always cold and started the ministry of sending packages to ladies undrgoing the same treatment.
We love you - Ed and Joyce
