Gidget knows her body well at this point, and she told me that the blood work was unnecessary this week - she knew her platelet count would be too low for chemo. She was right... her platelet count is at 33,000. Not good.
Gidget rarely bruises (under normal, "non-chemo" circumstances), but the past couple weeks she has developed really deep, dark bruises on her arms and legs. She doesn't remember where they came from, they just showed up. Weird. So, we regroup and hit it again in two weeks.
While I have your undivided attention... The kids at Acey's school put on a fashion show (all their idea, very cute) to raise money for a defibrillator. The parents/family members paid $5 bucks a pop to get into the gym, and then a bunch of the kids strutted their stuff up on the stage. The intermission entertainment was an air band concert by "21 IronVans." What's that? Never heard of them? Boy, are you out of it!
21 IronVans is the brain-child of one of Acey's teachers, Mrs. P-B (or "the Peebster" as he calls her). Actually, I think Mrs. P-B planted the seed and the kids grew the thing into a Rock 'N Roll monster. Me and Acey had a good 'ol time working on his guitar. It was supposed to be cut out of cardboard, but we added a plywood back, metal strap eyelets, and loads and loads of various spray paints, metal pin-striping, etc.
I Photoshop-ed some backstage passes for the band members and the "VIPs" (parents), which got us all into the pit of debauchery (teacher's lounge) after the show to drink (punch) with the band:
Finally, I posted a video of one of their performances. Note: unless you're a life-long 21 IronVans fan, you might want to skip this one! It's long... very long. But cute. Acey and Anthony do a cool little coordinated guitar solo thing around the 3-minute mark.

We are sorry to here about the cancellation, as we know it will only delay the final process. Sure am sorry to hear about the bruising and Gidget just not feeling up to par. We will continue to pray that the overall process goes well. We were talking to your Aunt Louise and Mother today and they were asking about you all. We keep them informed since they don't have computer access. They have you in their prayers all the time too.
ReplyDeleteAcey, you and your Dad did a great job on your guitar. You and Ant really look the part for your 21 IronVans band. We are going to wait till tomorrow to hear the concert.
Sure do love you all.
Dad/Ed/Papa & (Grandma)Joyce
Acey - When Grandma Joyce and I wrote to you yesterday, we had not seen your concert video. We just got through watching it and became instant 21 IronVans fans. I am still impressed with your guitar and now I see you have really been practicing on it. We really enjoyed watching you.
ReplyDeleteGive your Mom and Dad a hug for me.
I sure do love you all.
Papa
oh that was not too long, do you know how long its been since I have been to a concert? It looked so real. I loved the song, even though country music is my choice. Go Acey Go!
ReplyDeleteI love the concert. Are those groupies sitting with their feet hanging off the stage? Love the guitar- how cool!
ReplyDeleteAcey, it's so neat that you and Anthony have stayed good friends all these years. You two are great together.
A couple of years ago we got defibulators at all of our schools here, too. I have to upgrade things on it periodically and when I take the defibulator off the pressure sensitive hook it hangs on it starts "talking" to me- always kind of freaks me out. What a nice thing for kids to care about fund raising money for. It could end up saving someone's life some day.
Gidget, sorry to hear about another delay- I know it's hard to have it stretch out longer! The 3 of you are in my thoughts and prayers often. I'm looking forward to spending time with all of you starting mid-June. Love, Michelle
Sorry this last process did not work out. I think of you daily and you are always in my prayers. We have a lot of catching up to do. I hope we can get together once you are feeling better!
ReplyDeleteHi Kiddo:
ReplyDeleteJuat a quick note because I am stealing time again on our shippers computer here in England. I am really sorry to hear that you had to skip another chemo session. It may be a blessing though because it will give you some time to regain some energy and simply feel better! I am curious how your new house is coming along!
Acey and Jay, the guitar is very cool!!! I can't get the video to open here but will watch it when I get home. Love You!!
Tell Acey I found the best salt and vinegar chips ever and will bring him a bag with me!
