Unfortunately, our marriage was tested sooner rather than later. I knew that Jay would make a wonderful husband and father, and he more than lived up to his commitment. I could not have gotten through the last 9 months without him.
In November 2009, shortly after being diagnosed, I was told that I needed an MRI to determine if the cancer had traveled to my brain. While lying on the table, waiting to slide into the MRI machine, everything seemed to close in. The reality of my situation hit me all at once. I knew I had to hold perfectly still for the MRI, but I began trembling, sobbing and shaking, unable to stop. Like a super hero :), Jay told the nurse that he had to go into the room to calm me down. The nurse was reluctant because Jay hadn't been screened for metal, or outfitted wth the special apron needed to enter the MRI room. Jay told her he was going in and I don't think he gave her time to stop him. He rushed in, held my hand and stroked my hair. He whispered in my ear: "We will get through this together..." He was able to calm me down enough to complete the MRI and, thankfully, the results were encouraging. That motto has been whispered in my ear over and over throughout this ordeal. Each time it has given me renewed strength to face each obstacle head on and get through it.
I am so thankful to have a husband that took his vows to heart. He has been my rock and voice of reason... when I simply wanted to run away and not deal with the surgery, the treatment, pain, chemo, etc., he has been right by my side.
We have gotten through everything up to this point together, as a team, and I am so thankful to have both Jay and Acey in my life. Together we call ourselves the Three Amigos. I LOVE THEM :)!!!

Gidget - I think you missed your calling. Your words express your love and depth of feeling better than anything I have read before. I am so thankful that my son brought you into our lives.
ReplyDeleteI want to thank you too for the description of how you went through the MRI together. It was very brave of both of you.
Very early on, I accepted you as part of our family, but never did I expect that you would become the daughter that you have.
You and the other two "Amigos" continue to face everything together, and it will all be right.
We will continue to lift you all three in our prayers each day.
With all our Love - Ed and Joyce
I'm so glad that you all have gotten through this "together". Gidget's words truly expressed this. I hope Gidget has continued positive news. She has a lot of people that care about her and will always be by her side if she needs them. Thanks for keeping all of us posted during your journey.
ReplyDeleteHi, Gidget, Jay and Everyone that is part of this on-line community.
ReplyDeleteI wrote Gidget an e-mail earlier today to tell her that I made the mistake of opening and reading her post right before I headed out to greet all my little students on the playground first thing this morning. As I read her message it touched me so much that tears started leaking out of my eyes...not a great sight for anyone that happened to pass by the principal's office!
Gidget, your words captured so eloquently and clearly how you feel and how I know the three of you feel about each other.
I have forwarded your blog to friends of mine from time to time- those that I'm close with and have know about this journey from the beginning. One of my dear friends wrote back recently that you, Gidget, have been her inspiration twice.
Once was to go get her colonoscopy (something she had been procrastinating about) and the second time was today when she read your post. She said it put things totally in perspective and that she got up from her desk (she is a principal, too) and left all the paperwork and went out to connect with children (and to maybe get and give a hug or two).
The messages you and Jay have both sent throughout this process about love and family resonate with all of us.
I love you guys! Michelle
Hi Gidget:
ReplyDeleteI am sitting in the Mt. Vernon library with tears sliding down my face. That was such a beautiful message. You need to keep that in a safe place to pass onto Acey some day. Take it out and read it when you are feeling down!
It was a total blast having the Three Amigos up at our cabin. Acey and I stayed wet for four days straight because of all the creek and waterfall exploring we did! Having just "fun" time with Jay and Gidget was a blast!
Love Merd
Gidget,
ReplyDeleteMore tears here. Your words are so beautiful, and the truth behind your words, of what an amazing team you and Jay have been, is beyond inspiring. So much love there - how blessed you both are to have found that rock in each other. Most people only dream of having that kind of support and commitment in times of trouble. Thank you for sharing that love and inspiration with all of us! You continue to be in my thoughts and prayers.
Love, Demery
and your beautiful Acey too is part of the team! didn't mean to leave him out :)
